Area: 1,400 SqFt
Status: Built, 2021
Location: San Diego, CA
Built in 1955, this traditional American home is located on a half-acre near downtown San Diego. The intended occupants were a retired couple expecting to host guests frequently. The house needed restoration plus the addition of an attached ADU which could easily alternate between integrating with the primary residence or functioning as an independent wing for the intended occupants.
This home was playfully called the "house of many woods" during construction. In this open concept remodel, cohesiveness was needed to unify the spaces and reduce visual clutter. To provide this needed integration, multi-functional wood wall paneling was proposed. Custom pivoting doors, seamlessly integrated to the paneling, strengthened a playful transition between the main living and private spaces.
